Marist Academy names new principal
Published May 14, 2010
DETROIT — Notre Dame Marist Academy Middle School, Pontiac, will have a new principal at the helm for the new school year this fall after vice-principal Jill Mistretta takes on her new leadership role July 1.
Mistretta replaces Sandra J. Favrow, who is retiring after 15 years as principal of the school's middle division. Mistretta was hired as a science and English teacher at Marist Academy in 1996, the first teacher hired for the school's new division, succeeding Cindy Donovan as vice-principal in 2006.
"Jill is wonderfully suited to succeed Sandy Favrow, who has toiled here as founding principal of both our middle and lower divisions," said Fr. Leon Olszamowski, S.M., president of NDPMA. Mistretta was also instrumental in helping the middle division earn International Baccalaureate "World School" status in August of last year. She is a resident of Davisburg, and has a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Western Michigan University, and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Michigan-Flint.
