Archbishop Vigneron to be Installed as Archbishop of Detroit Español

 Allen H. Vigneron ( pronounced Vin-Yur-On) will be formally installed as the 5th archbishop (and 10th bishop) of Detroit at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, in a ceremony at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 9844 Woodward, Detroit.
The installation service will begin with a procession of deacons, priests and bishops leading Archbishop Vigneron to the altar. This will be followed by the introduction of the Mass and a reading of the Apostolic Letter of Appointment from Pope Benedict XVI.
Cardinal Maida, the installing prelate, will then lead Archbishop Vigneron to the bishop's chair (cathedra) and present him with a shepherd's staff (crosier), officially transferring spiritual leadership of Detroit's 1.4 million Catholics to his successor.
A full church is expected and reserved seating for the Mass is no longer available. A public reception will follow at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, 2701 Chicago Blvd., Detroit. Shuttle service will be provided between the cathedral and the seminary.
The Mass will be carried live on CTND/EWTN and web-streamed live on the archdiocesan website. It will also be carried by Catholic radio stations WCAR (1090 AM) and WDEO (990 AM).
Archbishop Vigneron, 60, served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit prior to being named Bishop of Oakland, California, in 2003. The Vatican announced his appointment as archbishop of Detroit on January 5, 2009.
