Dear Sisters and Brothers

Christ peace to you this day!  May God bless all your efforts this week as we continue in the journey of faith toward His Kingdom.  God reminds us each day of His goodness to us, by giving us the gift of music, by allowing us to serve Him, and by giving us brothers and sisters to support us on the way.  God never tires of our praise and we have the privilege of helping our sisters and brothers to full, conscious, and active worship when we are gathered in God's name.  May we never tire of serving Him who loves us so much that He gave His only Son so we may live forever!

Let us congratulate our brother Santiago Fernandez, who won two Unity Awards in Calgary yesterday: Spanish Album of the Year and Spanish Song of the Year, both for Un Canto Nuevo. This album is available through OCP publications. God bless you Santiago in all you do to build up the Kingdom in song!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas

Let us pray for one another

We continue to pray for our brothers and sisters who are ill, who are experiencing transitions in their lives and who are seeking jobs. We are mindful that we need one another and can support one another in action and prayer.

The next Friday’s at Denny’s will take place in the Northville area on September 24 at 12:15 pm.  See you there.

Peace and all good to you
Louis

We, as liturgical musicians, have little time to gather and celebrate our ministry and our gifts.  I hope that we can get together Sunday, September 12, at the annual Evening Prayer Gathering at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament.  This is a time for us to gather, pray for one another, and enjoy fellowship.  Along with the usual festivities, we will get a sneak preview of Christine Chun’s repertoire for the Cesar Frank Organ Competition in the Netherlands.  Christine is one of ten finalists for this event.  This is a great honor for all of us.  She begins the three-round competition a week later, so we get to hear a thirty-minute portion of her materials.  Afterward, we will have the opportunity to wish her well at the fellowship under the tent.  All music ministers from choir members to music directors are welcome. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with prayer.

We would like to celebrate those that have been in ministry for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc. years.

Please let us know if you will be attending by emailing Louis Canter at canter.louis@aod.org.

This Sunday we kick off a concert series hosted by Aaron Kaleniecki at St. Aloysius parish, downtown. The church is located at 1234 Washington Blvd. in the heart of the downtown area.  The concert begins at 1:30 pm and will feature Louis E. Canter playing the music of J.S.Bach, Julius Reubke and his own compositions.  Free will offering appreciated.  For more information please download the flyer or call Aaron at 313-575-0642

The Psalms in Christian Worship:
An Ecumenical Music Ministry Webinar
with Dr. John Witvliet

Sessions take place on Thursday, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. ET

Join musicians and pastoral leaders around the country (and around the world!) for a stimulating one-hour webinar with Dr. John Witvliet, director of the Calvin Institute for Christian Worship in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The webinar will include a summary of key biblical and theological themes related to the psalms and their use in the Church’s worship today, drawing on insights from the history, theology, and pastoral practice of liturgy and preaching. The presentation will also offer practical guidance for musicians, clergy, and other worship leaders in preparing to sing or preach on the psalms, including the choice of translations available to various denominations.

This ecumenical webinar is sponsored by church-related associations representing Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and United Methodist musicians and other worship leaders.

You can register as an individual or as a group (members of the sponsoring organizations only). If you register as a group, fees per person can be lower than $10! For more information, visit the NPM Web site.
